At Velo-Perso, we value parts that solve real problems. Many current Shimano cranks are excellent, yet the standard chainring combinations do not suit every rider. ALUGEAR offers more gearing options, distinctive finishes and a carefully designed aero look while allowing you to keep the crank arms you already know.

On Ultegra and Dura-Ace 12s builds, ALUGEAR makes particular sense: CNC-machined chainrings, a crank-specific aero cover and an integrated visual result. Shimano factory power-meter versions R8100-P and R9200-P require their dedicated cover variants—a detail that matters when ordering.

The correct gearing matters more than a marketing promise.
Start with your terrain and preferred cadence. Then verify your front derailleur capacity, cassette and overall drivetrain. An advertised size is not a promise that it is currently in stock.

MEASURED AT VELO-PERSO
A 58T ALUGEAR chainring: 143 g on our own scale.
This particular 58-tooth Shimano 110 × 4 single chainring weighed 143 g on our Park Tool scale at Velo-Perso. That is the measured weight of this exact ring, not a blanket claim for every size.
A large chainring can offer a substantial tooth count without excessive mass. Stiffness, chain compatibility, chain length and rear-derailleur setup still have to be checked for your particular bike.
DIFFERENT TERRAIN, DIFFERENT FIT
For gravel: chainrings made specifically for GRX cranks.
ALUGEAR GRX rings are not simply interchangeable with road Shimano 110 × 4 chainrings. The spider profile and chainline must match the crank. Dedicated narrow-wide 1x teeth help chain retention over rough ground.

The official ALUGEAR Components installation tutorial walks through replacing Shimano rings with the AERO 2x kit, fitting the inner ring in the correct orientation, aligning the cover and tightening the original supplied bolts.
The tutorial specifies 10 Nm for the four supplied bolts. Always follow the instructions for your exact ALUGEAR part and Shimano crankset.

BEFORE YOU ORDER
Three checks that prevent expensive fitment mistakes.
Exact crank model
R7100, R8100, R8100-P, R9200 or R9200-P? Similar-looking aero covers do not necessarily fit the same crank.
1x or 2x drivetrain
A 2x shifting ring is not a narrow-wide 1x ring. Check chain type, front derailleur and rear-derailleur capacity.
Gearing and hardware
Check your chosen combination, frame clearance and included hardware. Factory Shimano power meters require the dedicated P cover.

Answers that help you order once—and correctly.
Can I keep my Shimano crank arms?
Yes, as long as the crank model and bolt interface match the chosen ring. Compatibility cannot be established from the Shimano groupset name alone.
Does it fit Shimano R8100-P or R9200-P power meters?
The 2x kit offers purpose-made cover variants for factory Shimano power-meter cranks. Select the correct P cover and verify the exact crank reference.
How many watts does the aero cover save?
It smooths the appearance of the crankset. We do not claim a specific watt saving without a test protocol for the individual bike and configuration.
Can I fit a GRX chainring to an Ultegra crank?
Not simply because both have four arms. The crank interfaces and chainlines differ. Choose the chainring designed for your exact model.
Do I need to buy the complete kit?
No. Outer rings, inner rings, AERO covers and 1x rings have individual product listings. Choose individual parts only when the whole combination is compatible.
Are all sizes available for immediate dispatch?
No. Availability varies by tooth count, cover version and colour. Please check your selected variant on the product page or ask Velo-Perso.
