Track Cranksets

Our track crankset range includes three pure-performance options — Vegast, Aldhu and Aldhu Carbon — designed for the specific demands of velodrome racing. Adjustable crank lengths, wide chainring range, and stiffness built to handle the most explosive power: these cranksets are all about speed, acceleration and efficiency.

Shared technical features

30 mm axle (maximum stiffness) 144 BCD AERO spider BSA Track bottom bracket (threaded) Compatible with Rotor 47–56T chainrings Power handling: up to 1,500–2,000 W

Overall stiffness is **very similar** across the three models; the choice mainly depends on your rider profile and race discipline.

Which track crankset for your discipline?

Vegast — the versatile “must have”

  • **Forged aluminum** crank arms: strong, reliable, modular.
  • Stiff enough for **all** track disciplines.
  • Great as an all-round base (47–56T chainrings).

Best for: Clubs, riders competing in multiple disciplines, or those seeking the best price-to-performance ratio.

Aldhu — the pure “power” choice

  • **CNC-machined aluminum** crank arms for instant response.
  • Best suited to riders pushing **1,500–2,000 W** (sprint, kilo).
  • Direct, explosive feel for maximum acceleration.

Best for: Sprinters and riders focused on **short, high-intensity events** (sprint, 500 m, kilo).

Aldhu Carbon — the efficiency option

  • **Carbon crank arms** with **aluminum inserts**.
  • Designed to maximize **efficiency** in sustained efforts.
  • Excellent for **pursuit** and multi-minute efforts.

Best for: Pursuit specialists, track riders seeking long-effort efficiency and consistency.

Chainring range & compatibility

All models are compatible with Rotor chainrings from **47 to 56 teeth** (shown below on this page). The **144 BCD AERO spider** ensures the rigidity required for precise shifting and minimal flex, even under extreme loads.

Recommendations by event

  • Sprint / Kilo: Aldhu (handles 1,500–2,000 W best).
  • Pursuit (multi-minute efforts): Aldhu Carbon (optimized efficiency).
  • All-round / Multi-discipline: Vegast (rigidity + modularity, the safe choice).

Frequently Asked Questions about Rotor Track Cranksets

Can I use my road chainrings on these track cranksets?

No, track chainrings use a 144 mm BCD with 5 arms, which is specific and incompatible with modern 4-arm road chainrings.

Why are track chainrings so massive?

They are designed to handle sustained power above 500 W and peaks up to 2000 W from world-class sprinters. The extra mass ensures stiffness and aerodynamics at speeds often above 60 km/h.

Can I use oval chainrings on track bikes?

No, because track bikes are fixed-gear with no derailleur to adjust chain tension. Oval rings require a derailleur system.

Why choose a Rotor crankset for track use?

The key is stiffness. At over 500 W, standard cranks flex. Rotor CNC cranks deliver maximum power transfer and reliability.

Are carbon crank arms suitable for track cycling?

Yes, but they perform best between 300 and 1000 W. Above 1000 W, we recommend Aldhu CNC aluminium cranks for maximum stiffness.

I’m new to track cycling, which crankset should I choose?

Start with the Vegast track crankset and two chainring sizes to cover your events. Thanks to the modular design, you can later upgrade to Aldhu alloy or carbon arms.

Can I ride with 165 mm cranks on the track?

Yes, 165 mm is the preferred track length for cadence, efficiency, and safety (avoiding pedal strike). See our guide on 165 mm cranksets.
